I apologize for the delay in posting the next pattern. For those of you that are still interested in continuing with the crochet along, I will be trying to get us caught back up over the next few weeks.
This week’s square is based on Nina Leon’s Window Pane Square. Here is a photo of my completed square for this week:
The Pattern, With Tutorial Photos
I used a size H hook to complete this square. It measures 6 inches by 6 inches, as all squares will need to measure. Please select the appropriate size hook for your squares to measure 6 inches as well.
I used 4 colors (colors A-D), so the pattern is written for 4 colors. If you use more/less colors, make the appropriate adjustments.
Abbreviations (for a tutorial of each stitch, see the links page in the menu):
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
tc – treble crochet
To begin, ch 4 with color A. Join to first ch with a sl st.
Round 1: Continuing with color A, ch 4. Work 15 tc into the loop. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-4. Cut yarn and finish off.
Round 2: With color B, join with sl st in any tc, ch 1, 3 sc in same st, ch 2. Skip next st. *3 sc, ch 2, skip next st.* Repeat from * to * 6 more times. Join with sl st to first sc.
Round 3: Continuing with color B, sl st in next 2 sc and into ch-2 sp. (Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1) in ch-2 sp (corner made). *^(3 dc, ch 1) in next ch-2 sp.^ (3 dc, ch 1) twice in next ch-2 sp (corner made).* Repeat from * to * 2 more times, then from ^ to ^ once more. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3. Cut yarn and finish off.
Round 4: With color C, join with sl st in ch-1 sp between 2 groups of 3 dc that are in the same ch-2 sp of the previous row (a corner). Ch 1, sc. *^(Ch 3, sc in ch-1 sp) 2 times.^ (Ch 3, 2 sc in corner ch-1 sp).* Repeat from * to * 2 more times, then from ^ to ^ once more. Ch 3, sc in same ch-1 sp as beginning sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Cut yarn and finish off.
Round 5: With color D, join with sl st in first sc of round 4 l . Ch 6, skip ch-3 sp. *^(Dc in next sc, ch 3, skip ch-3 sp) 2 times.^ Dc in first sc of corner, ch 3, dc in second sc of corner.* Repeat from * to * 2 more times, then from ^ to ^ once more. Dc in first sc of corner, ch 3. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch-6.
Round 6: Continuing with color D, ch 1. 3 sc in each ch-3 sp, sc in each dc, and 5 sc in each corner ch-3 sp around. Join with sl st to first sc.
Round 7: Continuing with color D, ch 3. Dc in each st around, (dc, ch 2, dc) in middle sc of each corner 5 sc. Join with sl st to first dc. Cut yarn and finish off.
Finishing: Weave in all ends, making sure that they are very secure. You do not want the ends to come unraveled when you wash the blanket. If you need help with weaving in the ends, check out the tutorial posted in the links page above.
