Week 10 – Granny Lace

This week, our square is based on Forever Lace by Donna Kay Lacey.  The author says that this square is reminiscent of Irish Lace, which I think is perfect for this time of year.  As the weather starts to warm up, I’ll be getting out my lacy sweaters and cardigans.  Here is a photo of this week’s square:

The Pattern, With Tutorial Photos

I used a size H hook to complete this square.  It measures 6 inches by 6 inches, as all squares will need to measure.  Please select the appropriate size hook for your squares to measure 6 inches as well.

I used 2 colors (color A and B), so the pattern is written for 4 colors.  If you use less/more colors, make the appropriate adjustments.

Abbreviations (for a tutorial of each stitch, see the links page in the menu):
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
picot – picot stitch

To complete a picot stitch, ch 3, then sl st in 3rd ch from hook.

This pattern will require you to crochet in the back loops only.  It also contains a non-traditional start so that the center does not contain the small hole seen in the rest of our squares.

Round 1: With color A, *ch 8, sl st in 8th ch from hook.*  Repeat from * 3 more times.  Join with a sl st to the first ch of the round.

Finishing: Weave in all ends, making sure that they are very secure.  You do not want the ends to come unraveled when you wash the blanket.  If you need help with weaving in the ends, check out the tutorial posted in the links page above.

Feel free to send a photo of your finished square to littlebirdknits0@gmail.com to have it added to the photos page.
